Dayton doesn't have the same kinds of gang problems that plague cities like Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles or even Columbus. In fact, some community activists blame most local gang-related crime on kids imitating gang life. "A lot of this (gang) stuff is overblown," said the Rev. Tommie Stewart, who heads Northwest Weed and Seed. "Most of these kids are just wannabe gang members." Still, the Dayton-based gangs identified by state prison investigators represent a Who's Who of street gangs that make headlines in big cities across the country: Aryan Brotherhood, Crips, Bloods, Folks and People Nation. They also identified 18 independent gangs from Dayton and Montgomery County. Since most inmates eventually come home, prison gang ties can become neighborhood gang ties.

I had a 3 hour class on laws and hand gun use. 2. I then had to complete a test on the information presented in the class. 3. I had to hit a target 12" by 12" at 15 feet with at least 90% accuracy. 3. I had a city back ground check. 4. I had a county background check. 5. I had a state/FBI background check. 6. I was finger printed and this was sent to the state capital that issued my permit. The training is there and with experience a person can carry, and provide some additional safety for people around them. To add safety for a place that is as populated as this state having this along with a visit or two with a psychologist could make for a very secure CCW for the state! I think that it is time for Illinois to catch up with the times. --Anonymous Stricter gun control will not keep our students in schools completely safe.
As the snow flies, defining moments, redux
I was eight months pregnant in January of 1977. My husband was in western Canada for a week. This was my third child, not my first. We'll be fine, I told him. And we were. We were better than fine. It began snowing two days after he left - thick, fat flakes that drifted and covered the rail fence in the front yard, that sat upright on telephone lines, that turned the neighbors' roofs white and the world, all we could see of it, into a giant snow globe. My children cheered. They were 5 and 7 and school was canceled. They sat on the couch in their pajamas, wrapped in blankets, not arguing, not even poking one another - just watching cartoons and eating an Entenmann's Raspberry Danish Twist. We lived on junk food then. I made pancakes with chocolate chips and chocolate chip cookies and then I sat and watched TV, too.

Turushev retired a few months later, after he was nearly beaten to death in the entrance of his home. He was replaced by Yury Kolpakov.

It wouldn't take more than a dozen Hiroshima size atom bombs to serve as an effective nuclear deterrent to America,which could not risk the destruction of any of its major cities. That's why any attempt by Iran to develop nuclear weapons would lead to a war with America. Will the Iranian government try to acquire them? This clerical government is still inspired by the principles of the Iranian revolution and revolutionaries are almost always unpredictable and truculent. It will be a close call. .
